Jean Baptiste Pierre Antoine de Monet, Chevalier de Lamarck was Jean's full name. He was born in a small village called Bazentin-le-Petit which is located in the Northern area of France on August 1st, 1744. He had a run of soldiers in his house and was the youngest out of the 11 siblings. From the influence of his father Lamarck was able to become a soldier himself. He had went into the army just a couple of days after his father's death and fought his first battle. Peace was finally declared in 1763 and Lamarck was able to be on duty as an officer for about 5 years. Unfortunately Lamarck got an injury that left him no choice but to leave the army, he worked in a little bank for a little while until he started to study about medicine. Lamarck was a very clever man and was able to catch on and become an expert with medicine.
Lamarck continued his studies and came to a conclusion of his own theory of evolution. So Lamarck came up with his own explanation on why evolution is true by the use and disuse theory. He believed that Giraffes were once average height with short necks but due to the resources and food disappearing on grounds they had no choice but to reach up to the leaves on trees. Since the Giraffe's had very short neck they had to stretch up to reach the leaves high up so the stretching of the necks caused the giraffes now a days to have very long necks. He also believed that all the giraffes that were getting leaves that were remaining on ground will have no knees later on, because they are no longer using their knees so for later generations the giraffes will no longer have knees.
Even if Lamarck's theory was way off he was the first one's to come up with an explanation of evolution which helped contribute to the theory. After alot more research into evolution and the use and disuse theory Lamarck died at the age of 86 in 1829.
